Hidilyn Diaz gets free tickets from AirAsia for 5 yrs.
Filipino Olympic silver-medalist Hidilyn Diaz is getting free tickets for five years from low-cost carrier AirAsia.
Diaz bagged the silver medal in the 53-kilogram class of the weightlifting event of the 2016 Rio Olympics after a 20-year drought for Philippines.
Gold medalists from ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) will receive free tickets for life, while silver and bronze medalists will get free tickets for five and two years, respectively, the airline said on Wednesday.
Diaz and other eligible athletes will be able to fly to any of the more than 120 destinations within AirAsia and AirAsia X's network in Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa, the carrier noted.
"I was blown away by the performances from ASEAN athletes, such as Thailand's Sukanya Srisurat and Sopita Tanasan, Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, as well as Joseph Schooling and Hoang Xuan Vinh, who won Singapore and Vietnam's first ever Olympic gold medal," AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said in a statement. — Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
