AirAsia to fly to Taiwan in November, announces promo fare

Budget airline company Philippines AirAsia over the weekend said it is set to begin direct flights to Taiwan starting next month, along with the announcement of promo fares available until Sunday next week.

In an emailed statement, the carrier said it is scheduled to begin flights from the Philippines next month — the daily Manila-Taipei flights to begin on November 21, and the thrice-a-week Cebu-Taipei flights on November 25.

To launch the new route, AirAsia also on Sunday announced promo fares available until October 16.

Flights from Cebu to Tapei with a travel period from November 25, 2016 to March 25, 2017 are currently priced P888, while Manila-Taipei flights with a travel period from November 21, 2016 to March 25, 2017 are priced P1,488.

"In anticipation of the influx of tourists and travelers to Taipei following the recent easing of visa rules for Filipinos, we are thrilled to announce that AirAsia is launching direct flights to Taipei from our hubs in Manila and Cebu this November with promo fares now available online and through our partner travel agents nationwide," Philippines AirAsia CEO Captain Dexter Comendador said.

To recall, the Taiwanese government on September 1 started allowing Filipino passport holders with a residence or permanent residence card, valid visa, or an expired residence card or visa less than 10 years old issued by certain countries to enter Taiwan visa-free.

These countries include Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and any of the Schengen countries, the United Kingdom, or the United States. —ALG, GMA News
