AirAsia gives Paralympics bronze-medalist Medina free tickets for 3 years
Josephine Medina, winner of the bronze medal for table tennis at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, received free tickets for three years from low-cost carrier AirAsia.
The 46-year-old Filipino athlete won a bronze medal on September 13 after defeating Germany's Juliane Wolf.
Medina debuted on the Philippine sports scene in 2006. She came in fourth at the 2012 London Paralympics. She also won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon.
"I am tremendously proud of paddler Josephine Medina for ending the Philippines' 16-year medal drought at the Paralympics, equaling Hidilyn Diaz's achievement just a month earlier," AirAsia Philippines CEO Captain Dexter Comendador said in a statement on Wednesday.
AirAsia gave away free tickets to Paralympic medalists from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on October 11 at an event in the Asian Aviation Centre of Excellence (AACE) in Malaysia.
Gold medal winners received a lifetime of tickets flights, while silver and bronze medal winners received five and three years' worth, respectively, the airline said. — Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
