BDO Unibank Inc. and Japan’s Nomura Holdings Inc. on Monday officially opened BDO Nomura Securities Inc., an online trading platform for stocks listed on the local bourse.

“BDO Nomura provides investors in-depth market research, quick execution time and competitive rates,” the lender said in an emailed statement.

For its part, Nomura cited the gains of the partnership as approximately 86 percent of new investors who opened trading accounts in 2015 preferred to trade through an online brokerage.

The partnership intends to "create a strong platform to serve a fast-growing market and bring new investment opportunities to domestic retail investors,” Koichi Katakawa, BDO Nomura president, said.

According to BDO, Nomura’s entry into the Philippines is in line with the bank’s plans to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia.

Shares of BDO Unibank ended trading on Monday at P112.00 apiece, unchanged from Friday. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
