Duterte appoints new Insurance Commission chief

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Deputy Insurance Commissioner Dennis Funa as the head of the Insurance Commission (IC), the body that regulates the protection industry.

Funa took his oath before Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III on Friday.

Funa replaced Emmanuel Dooc, who was recently appointed as the president and chief executive officer of Social Security System.

As the new IC chief, Funa will sit as ex-officio member of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) along side Ex-officio Chairman Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amado Tetangco Jr. and Ex-officio member Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Teresita Herbosa.

Funa's appointment as new Insurance commissioner came just a day after Duterte attacked officials of the AMLC for being allegedly uncooperative with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in their investigation of suspected drug criminals.

A source informed GMA News Online that Funa will have an emergeny meeting with the AMLC on Friday following the President's latest warning against the council. — VVP, GMA News
