The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) on Wednesday urged account holders affected by the recent glitch not to panic, as the bank moves to correct the error within the day.

On Wednesday early morning, the bank's system noted an internal error, causing debits and credits from April 27 to May 2 to be double-posted as of June 6, 2017.

Here are a few tips from BPI Senior Vice President Catherine P. Santamaria for clients whose accounts were affected by the glitch:

1. Stay calm

"Hindi po nawala ang pera niyo, wala po ang mawawalan ng pera. Wala pong nakakuha ng pera niyo... Don't be worried, the money is there."

2. Transact over the counter

"For those who feel that there's something wrong with their account, our branches are open... They just have to go to our branch and do the withdrawal there."

3. Don't touch the additional money

"Please don't touch the money because we will also automatically take it out... 'Wag niyo please galawin 'yung accounts... Don't touch the money kasi alam mo naman na hindi iyo 'yun."

4. Don't post private information online

"Please do not post any personal information or your account information... We ask actually clients please don't post any personal information about your account."

5. Monitor your account

"It will automatically be fixed. You don't have to report it."

6. Be vigilant

"Please be very vigilant. We at BPI do not ask for any information online. Do not give any information online."

To accommodate clients while all electronic channels of the bank are temporarily suspended, BPI has extended banking hours until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Ayala-led lender has already assured the public that only a "small" percentage of accounts was affected by the glitch, and the issue has already been contained. — MDM, GMA News
