7 BDO ATMs compromised by skimming hacks
An insignificant number of automated teller machines (ATMs) were compromised during the latest skimming hacks by still unknown perpetrators, Sy-led BDO Unibank Inc. said Wednesday.
"Three separate fraud events affected seven ATMs in three locations," BDO Unibank Executive Vice President and Transaction Banking Group Head Edwin Romualdo G. Reyes told a Senate hearing on Wednesday.
The number of ATMs involved accounted for 0.2 percent of 3,700 BDO ATMs nationwide, the bank executive said.
BDO clients noted late last week separate incidents of unauthorized withdrawals from their accounts.
According to the bank's initial report to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the incident was caused by a "localized skimming attack."
BDO promised to reimburse the money skimmed from clients' accounts. — VDS, GMA News
