Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC) is on track to rehabilitate its Panian open pit mine in Antique province.

In a disclosure on the Philippine Stock Exchange, the integrated energy company said it has filled up the in-pit of the Southern Panian mine with 66.4 million bank cubic meters (BCM) of overburden materials.

This is 70-percent more than the year-end target of 90 million BCM this 2017.

"The Panian area used to have rolling hills of open grasslands with a variety of shrubs and trees. Our end goals is to restore Panian to its original landscape, and create an even more vibrant ecosystem in the area," SMPC president and COO Victor A. Consunji said.

Filling the Panian pit is expected to be completed in 2020. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
