The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday asked companies to urge their employees who do their work sitting down to stand up every two hours.

According to a report on Unang Balita, the DOLE issued a department order instructing companies to hold regular five-minute breaks every after two hours.

The DOLE said being seated daily for hours on end can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), obesity and other health problems.

Companies are also asked to encourage other forms of exercise like dance lessons among their employees.

Employers were also reminded to ensure that all workplaces are suitable for an employee's nature of work. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
