LRT1 management to passengers: Don't open train doors by force
The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) is advising passengers not to forcibly open train doors, the Department of Transportation said on Wednesday.
The operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) issued the statement, two days after a door failed to close while the train was running from the V. Cruz Station to Quirino Station.
"Based on the LRMC investigation, an unidentified passenger forcibly opened the train door as it did not immediately open when the train stopped the at V. Cruz Station to allow other passengers to board the train at around 6:57 p.m. last Monday (November 27), " the DOTr said.
"However, the door failed to close when the train departed from the V. Cruz Station. According to the other passengers, the passenger who forcefully opened the door got off at Quirino Station," it added.
LRMC ordered all guards at station platforms to implement the “no forcible opening of doors” policy to avoid similar incidents that may potentially put the lives of passengers at risk, according to the department.
Forcibly opening doors can cause door mechanisms to fail, both in LRT1 and Metro Rail Transit Line 3. This is one of the top three causes of train failures and incidents of unloading passengers, the DOTr noted. — VDS, GMA News
