PHL operations of Toys ‘R’ Us unaffected by overseas store closures
The Philippine operations of global brand Toys ‘R’ Us Inc. said on Monday business remains unaffected by the closure of its shops overseas.
In an emailed statement, Toys ‘R’ Us Asia Pacific president Andres Javes said local operations will proceed, with more stores planned this year.
“We are a financially robust and self-funding retail operation, which continues to significantly grow and invest in this region,” he said in a statement through Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI).
RRHI, through wholly-owned subsidiary Robinsons Toys Inc., operates the Toys ‘R’ Us brand in the Philippines.
“We continue to open new stores and give our customers great shopping experiences,” Javes said.
His statement was issued amid reports that the company is preparing to sell or close all 885 stores in the US, with its 75 remaining shops in Britain also up for closure.
“It is indeed unfortunate that the brand is facing challenges abroad, but it is business as usual here in the Philippines,” Toys ‘R’ Us Philippines general manager Celina Chua said.
“Our stores are open and customers can still enjoy our diverse toy assortment for kids,” she said. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
