UP Open University denies any affiliation with CoopHub
In the wake of an advisory from the central bank warning the public not to deal with CoopHub, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) said its logo has been used by the company without any authorization.
“Please be advised that CoopHub and OFW Credit Coop are not authorized, nor were they given permission, to use UPOU’s name, logo, and pictures,” the university said.
“Moreover, UPOU has no joint program or course offerings with CoopHub and OFW Credit Coop, and it has severed its affiliation with both organizations,” it said.
The central bank has warned the public at large not to deal with CoopHub, as it has not secured the requirements to operate as a Credit Surety Fund.
On its website coophub.ph, the company claims it works in partnership with the UPOU to provide its accredited members with scholarship programs.
The same website said the company provides businesses in the Philippines with financial and marketing assistance.
“CoopHub supports MSMEs from idea generation, access to training, access to capital and access to marketing support locally and globally,” the company said.
UPOU reiterated in a statement that the use of its name by CoopHub was done without any permission, and that it is not connected with the company.
“It has come to the attention of the UP Open University that its name, logo, and pictures are being used by CoopHub Multimedia Services (CoopHub) and OFW Credit Cooperative (OFW Credit Coop) in their websites, social media pages, paraphernalia, and in their various marketing activities,” it said.
“CoopHub and OFW Credit Corp. have also been announcing their association with UPOU in their talks, seminars, and interviews with media implying either directly or indirectly, UPOU’s endorsement or support of their programs and services,” the university noted.
GMA News Online has contacted CoopHub to comment on the matter, but no response has been received as of this posting.
The BSP earlier urged the public to report such incidents to the Financial Consumer Protection Department through the email address consumeraffairs@bsp.gov.ph., or call (+632)708-7087. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
