‘PUBLIC WOULD LIKE TO KNOW’

Trillanes wants Dennis Uy to tell-all how Mislatel won 3rd telco bid

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tuesday said he wants to “scrutinize” how a consortium led by Dennis Uy, a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, won the country’s third telco slot.

He wants the Davao-based businessman, who chairs Udenna Corp. and its subsidiary Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corp., to answer questions, the senator said.

Udenna and Chelsea Logistics are members of the Mislatel Consortium, together with Mindanao Islamic Telephone Co. and state-owned China Telecommunications Corp. Ltd.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) hailed Mislatel as the new major player on November 19, or 12 days after bid documents were opened on November 7.

“I believe we have to invite Mr. Dennis Uy, because I will have some questions directly,” Trillanes said.

Uy was not present during Tuesday’s hearing. Mislatel was represented by other officials of the companies behind it such as spokesperson Adel Tamano.

“The public would like to know who won the third telco, and it’s very important for the Filipino to scrutinize ...” said Trillanes.

“I believe we need to invite Mr. Dennis Uy, because I will have some questions that Adel Tamano cannot answer,” Trillanes said.

At least six officers of the Filipino companies behind Mislatel were found to have contributed a total of P35.55 million to the campaign kitty of then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 presidential elections.

Senator Grace Poe, who chairs the Committee on Public Services, said Uy will be invited to the next hearing. —VDS, GMA News
