Maynilad bares water interruption schedule over Holy Week

Amid the scorching summer heat, Maynilad customers in parts of Manila, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Parañaque, Pasay, Las Piñas, and Bacoor, Cavite will experience temporary water service interruptions during the Holy Week.

In a statement Maynilad issued Thursday, the concessionaire said these interruptions would be a result of several water network enhancement activities they plan to conduct from April 16, 2019 (Holy Tuesday) to April 20, 2019 (Black Saturday).

“The duration of service interruptions will differ per area. Some will have no water for five hours only, while others will have no water for 30 hours,” Maynilad Water Supply Operations head Ronaldo Padua said.

Padua also apologized to Maynilad customers for the inconvenience, giving assurance that the enhancement activities are in line with efforts to improve water services in the West Zone.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience. These activities are being done so we can continue to improve the water infrastructure and ensure better water services for the long-term," the official said.

Affected residents were advised to stock up on water at least three days before the scheduled interruptions.

Maynilad explained this would "prevent simultaneous heavy withdrawals of water from pipelines  which can reduce water pressure and cause some customers to have no water earlier than schedule."

The company also said it had 40 water tankers on standby and were "ready to deliver water to affected areas as needed."

Maynilad said activities to be conducted include facility maintenance works, pipe decommissioning, pipe interconnections, and valve replacements.

It also bared plans to conduct smaller, parallel activities like leak detection and leak repairs which would otherwise require the implementation of separate service disruptions. —Margaret Claire Layug and Ted Cordero/NB, GMA News
