CAB to investigate Cebu Pacific’s cancellation of over 40 flights

The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) on Monday said it would look into the cancellation of over 40 flights of budget carrier Cebu Pacific.

According to Rida Reyes' report on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho", the dozens of cancelled flights were scheduled between April 28 and 30, 2019.

The airline said they had to cancel to normalize its flight timing and avoid delays of more scheduled flights.

"Mayroong technical issues sa aircrafts so hindi siya makalipad. Napakaraming flights in and out of Manila and so it creates a situation where hindi nabubuo 'yung flying time, 'yung lahat ng ruta hindi nakukumpleto," said Charo Logarta-Lagamon, director of Cebu Pacific's Corporate Communications unit.

Affected passengers will be allowed to get a refund or rebook their flights to other dates.

They may also re-route their trips to other airports or reserve their payment in their travel fund which they may use on their next flight.

Other airlines also cancelled some flights due to various reasons but CAB has started to look into the case of Cebu Pacific because it had the most number of affected passengers.

"We are now in the process of evaluating the incident and determine the circumstances that led to this. We draw the line between as to whether the cancelation is attributable to the airline, o kaya naman beyond the control of the airline," said Atty. Carmelo Arcilla, Executive Director of CAB.

The evaluation report of CAB is expected to be released within the week.

Cebu Pacific, on the other hand, apologized for the inconvenience the cancellations have caused.

"We have no other words but to say sorry. We hope na makabawi kami in the future. We are doing all we can to assist the affected passengers," Lagamon said. —Dona Magsino/NB, GMA News
