The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) expects the water situation at the Angat Dam reservoir to hit the critical level of 160 meters on Saturday, June 22.

This means that the water supply for the Metropolitan Water Works and Sewerage System, and eventually for concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water will be further reduced.

“As of 6 a.m. today, the water level in Angat is at 160.28 meters,” NWRB Executive Director Sevillo David Jr. told GMA News Online on Friday.

“By tomorrow the 160-meter elevation, considered as the critical level for water supply, will be  breached,” David emphasized.

“If the level falls below 160 meters, there will be further reduction of allocation from 40 cubic meters per second to 36 cubic meters per second. So, effective Saturday, the allocation will be 36 cubic meters per second,” he added.

By reducing the supply for MWSS and its concessionaires, the NWRB hopes to manage the limited supply from the reservoir until the rainfall hits the Angat Watershed.

David expects the natural replenishment of Angat Dam to happen in the next few days if not in July. —With Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
