DBDOYC Inc., more popularly known as motorcycle taxi app Angkas, on Monday gained the support of the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group for its pilot run.

PNP-HPG Chief Superintendent Roberto Fajardo signified the HPG’s support for the six-month pilot testing.

“We support Angkas, as well as all the transport operators legally franchised by the LTFRB, because it is a service that helps the commuters in safely going to and from their destinations,” Fajardo said.

“The HPG and Angkas have the same objective and therefore we need to support each other,” he added.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) approved a six-month pilot testing of Angkas, during which the government would be observing how the company operates. The pilot testing began this June.

Angkas is banking on a congressional vote of confidence, and to have its service operations legalized the before the end of the year.

Angkas earlier said it aims to retrain all of its 27,000 biker-partners to ensure and maintain a 99.997% safety rate during the pilot testing.

“HPG is out every day protecting our streets and since safety is also paramount to Angkas, we join them in their effort to make the street safer for the general public,” said Angkas founder and CEO Angeline Tham.

On Monday, Angkas turned over 50 crash helmets to the PNP-HPG, to complement the BMW motorcycles recently donated by businessman Ramon S. Ang. —VDS, GMA News
