The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning against buying and consuming five unregistered food products.

In an advisory, the FDA said the following products do not have the respective Certificates of Product Registration:

  • Robinsons Corniks Spicy
  • Health Insight Chico Drink 15 in 1
  • Herbal Chocodrink with Taurine
  • Health Insight Healthy Blend 15 in 1 Herbal Coffee
  • Sakto Special Sweet Kaong
  • Bebs Special Sweet Kaong

“In light of the foregoing, the public is advised not to purchase violative products in the market,” the FDA said on Wednesday.

According to Robinsons Supermarket on Friday: “Product has already been pulled out.”

“Our supplier assured us of compliance with all registration requirements,” Robinsons Supermarket told GMA News Online.

“As soon as we learned about the advisory, we ordered the immediate pull out of the product until supplier can rectify the situation,” Robinsons Supermarket said.

“Moreover, the public is advised to always check if a food product is registered with the FDA,” the regulator said, noting the food products were verified as unregistered through the FDA’s post-marketing surveillance.

Republic Act No. 9711 or the “Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009” states manufacturing, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising or sponsorship of health products without the proper authorization is prohibited.

“Since these unregistered food products have not gone through the evaluation process of the FDA, the agency cannot guarantee their quality and safety,” the FDA noted.

“The consumption of such violative products may pose health risk to consumers,” it added.

The FDA said its website (www.fda.gov.ph) has a search feature which may be used by typing in the name of the product before purchasing.

All concerned establishments are warned not to distribute unregistered food products until they have been issued the appropriate authorization, a License to Operate for the establishment, and a certificate of product registration for the food product, the FDA said.

“All FDA Field Officers and Regulatory Enforcement Unit in coordination with the law enforcement agencies and Local Government Units are requested to ensure that violative products are not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction,” it said. —VDS, GMA News
