DICT: Common tower to be used by 3rd telco player in Ilocos Sur

Dito Telecommunity, the country’s third telco player, will be the first customer of the pilot common tower to be constructed in the country, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Friday.

The LCS Holdings Inc., in partnership with UA Withya PCL, owns the said tower which is set to rise in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur.

DICT said that the two firms were among the 24 common tower providers that signed a memorandum of understanding with the department under its initiative of creating more telecommunication infrastructure.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the first ever shared cell tower in the country was held on Thursday. It is projected to be operational in the coming months.

Under the initiative, 50,000 towers are targeted to be established within the next seven to 10 years, DICT Undersecretary for Operations Eliseo Rio Jr. said.

A more comprehensive common tower policy is expected to come out by the end of the month, he added. —VDS, GMA News
