PNR unveils new train sets, says capacity increase expected

The carrying capacity of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) is set to increase soon, as its operator on Wednesday unveiled new train sets as part of a re-fleeting strategy.

The latest train sets — consisting of three locomotives and 15 passengers coaches — are set to carry passengers with a capacity of 1,250 per set per trip, with a maximum design speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

The new delivery will complete the 37 cars and three locomotives procured in 2018, featuring diesel-hydraulic and a water wading capacity of 18 inches.

The PNR operates the Metro South Commuter Train Service (between Alabang and IRRI and between Tutuban and IRRI); and the Metro North Commuter Shuttle Train Service (between Tutuban and Gov. Pascual and between Bicutan and Gov. Pascual).

According to its website, the rail line has five accommodations — Mayon Limited, Sleeper Coaches, Mayon Limited Ordinary, Bicol Express Reclining Aircon, and Mayon Limited De Luxe Executive. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/KG, GMA News
