IBPAP President and CEO Rey Untal resigns

The Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) on Tuesday announced the resignation of its President and Chief Executive Officer Rey Untal which will take effect in September.

According to the IBPAP, Untal will step down effective September 17, 2021, after being with the association for over four years. The group did not elaborate on the reason for his resignation.

“IBPAP would like to thank Rey for having advocated strongly for the Philippine IT-BPM industry throughout his tenure and making certain that the sector’s collective voice was heard by various stakeholders,” the IBPAP said in a statement.

“In the face of many uncertainties over the years, it is understandable that he has made a lasting impact on the industry,” it added.

Untal served as the group’s representative on meetings with the government to forward the growth of the IT-BPM sector, with revenues estimated at $26.7 billion and a 1.32-million headcount in 2020.

Earlier this year Untal said the sector is poised to grow by 5% to 6.5% this year, as most firms plan to expand their operations in the country.

Once Untal’s resignation becomes effective, IBPAP Board Chairman Benedict Hernandez will assume the role of Office-in-Charge while a replacement has yet to be made. A search committee has already been established to identify possible contenders.

“Though we are sad to see him go, we are all excited to see Rey accomplish more in his new role, and we wish him all the best in this endeavor,” the IBPAP said. — DVM, GMA News
