Sy siblings top Forbes’ Philippines’ 50 Richest list 2021

The country’s most affluent saw their cumulative wealth grow 30% to $79 billion amid the COVID-19 pandemic based on Forbes’ Philippines’ 50 Richest, with the Sy siblings taking the top spot.

According to Forbes, over half of the listees saw their wealth increase this year, with four of them adding over $1 billion each to their net worth.

The top gainers are the Sy siblings who added $2.7 billion to remain at the top spot with $16.6 billion, followed by property tycoon Manuel Villar Jr. who saw his net worth increase by $1.7 billion to $6.7 billion, and ports and casino tycoon Enrique Razon who grew his wealth by $1.5 billion to $5.8 billion.

In terms of percentages, Monde Nissin co-founder and president Betty Ang was the biggest gainer as she climbed 20 spots to rank 18th as her wealth jumped sevenfold to $1.4 billion following the company’s initial public offering (IPO) in June.

The IPO also produced three newcomers to the list — Monde Nissin chairman Hortono Kweefanus at 11th position with $1.95 billion; chief executive Henry Soesanto at 25th with $795 million; and heirs brothers Keng Sun and Peter Mar at 35th with $410 million.
