DOTr says MRT-7 now 62% complete

The Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) that would link North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan is now over 62% finished, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, DOTr said that there are exactly 201 days or about seven months left before the mass transport project comes into completion.

MRT-7 will link up with MRT-3 and LRT-1, providing greater access and seamless travel.

DOTr said that travel time to North Avenue to San Jose del Monte will be significantly reduced from 2 to 3 hours to just 35 minutes.

President Rodrigo Duterte and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade are set to unveil on Thursday the new MRT-7 train sets that came from South Korea, DOTr noted.

This would then complete the MRT-7’s total of 108 rail cars, with 36 train sets.

San Miguel Corp. president and COO Ramon Ang earlier said that its depot may be capable of holding up to 150 trains for future capacity expansion.

“This 24.7-kilometer rail line, which will have 14 stations, will be able to accommodate 300,000 passengers in its first year of operations, and will exceed up to 850,000 passengers per day during its 12th year,” DOTr said in the statement.

Ang said they are targeting to achieve “full, complete operations” by December 2022, with the first test run scheduled for June next year.Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA News
