Grab says Move It continues to operate independently
Grab Philippines on Saturday said that Move It continues to operate independently, months after it acquired the motorcycle taxi firm.
Grab said in a statement that Move It has its own sets of driver benefits, support measures, and other benefits that are separate from those of Grab's delivery partners.
The company said the business model of the motorcycle taxi firm is “far different from deliveries, and asserting that these issues in deliveries are applicable with motorcycle taxis is incorrect and misleading.”
Grab made the statement “in light of the November 10 event in Cebu.”
"[W]e are saddened that these groups have resorted to using fake social media accounts to harass, incite threats of harm, misinform, and even do fake bookings on our community," the company said, noting that several of the individuals who have allegedly posed as Grab delivery partners "are in fact not Grab delivery partners," according to its records.
“These individuals are determined to sow discord and discontent, and are willing to place the livelihoods of many Grab partners at risk,” it said.
“The sentiments from these groups do not represent the general sentiment of Grab’s broader partner communities across the country.”
In August, Grab announced its acquisition of Move It for an undisclosed amount but said the value of the transaction is below the Philippine Competition Commission’s P1-billion threshold for compulsory notification of mergers and acquisitions.
The PCC has earlier said that Grab’s acquisition of Move It does not need its go signal.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista earlier said that he was not keen on reviewing the Grab-Move It deal as he sees no legal issues with the transaction.
“We continue to engage our partners, and a far greater majority of them choose to stay on the platform because they understand and appreciate the recent measures that we had to do for their welfare and wellbeing,” Grab said.
“Our partners need meaningful livelihood opportunities so that they can provide for their families, and we are focused on supporting them amidst these very challenging economic times,” it said.
Grab said it is reaffirming its long-standing commitment to empowering its partners across the country, and “we are fully motivated to find ways in ensuring that our partners still earn meaningfully from the platform despite a very tough economy.” — VBL, GMA Integrated News
