According to Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga, maintenance activities are announced every Thursday and Friday, but the company is more careful during the summer season, in consideration of the customers’ need for power supply.

“Sa pamamagitan ng tinatawag na sufficient energy supply from our power suppliers at kasama din diyan ‘yung pagpasok namin sa mga tinatawag na interim power supply agreements para mapunan ang mga pangangailangan pa namin,” said Zaldarriaga in a report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

(Through what we call sufficient energy supply from our power suppliers, along with the entry of what we call the interim power supply agreements, we can supply the needs.)

Meralco also encouraged its large customers to enter the interruptible load program and to continue to adhere to energy efficiency initiatives.

The firm last month said it was gearing up for the summer season and it had enough reserves to cater to the expected demand amid the ongoing El Niño season.

Meralco constructs, operates, and maintains electric distribution systems in the cities and municipalities of Bulacan, Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal, as well as certain areas in the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga, and Quezon. The firm counts as subsidiaries and associates Vantage Energy Solutions and Management Inc. and MeridianX Inc., acting as retail electricity suppliers in Luzon and the Visayas. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
