NLEX Corp. begins construction of NLEX-C5 Northlink
Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC)-led NLEX Corp., the operator of North Luzon Expressway, on Tuesday broke ground for the NLEX-C5 Northlink project.
MPTC president and CEO Jose Ma. Lim, NLEX Corp. officer-in-charge and chief finance officer Maria Theresa Wells, Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, along with representatives from the Department of Transportation-Toll Regulatory Board (DOTr-TRB), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development-National Housing Authority (DHSUD-NHA), attended the groundbreaking ceremony in Quezon City for the construction of NLEX-C5 Northlink’s initial two kilometers, or the P2.2-billion Segment 8.2 Section 1A.
Segment 8.2 Section 1A will extend the NLEX’s Mindanao toll plaza to Quirino Highway in Novaliches through an all-weather elevated expressway crossing the Tullahan River in Quezon City.
NLEX Corp. has tapped China Road and Bridge Corp. (CRBC) to construct the segment.
Meanwhile, the entire NLEX-C5 Northlink project extends 11.3 kilometers from Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia, close to Katipunan Avenue.
“We are enthusiastic about this project as it contributes to our ongoing efforts to reduce traffic congestion on local roads in the metro. At MPTC, we believe that unhindered mobility fosters better opportunities for jobs, businesses, and economic growth,” said Lim.
The entire project is expected to improve access to NLEX from Metro Manila's west, east, north, and south sides and is seen to cut travel time and alleviate traffic congestion on major roads like EDSA, Commonwealth Avenue, Quirino Highway, and Mindanao Avenue.
The NLEX-C5 Northlink forms part of NLEX Corp.’s expansion plans, aimed at improving access between NLEX, Valenzuela City, and Quezon City.
“We aim to finish this two-kilometer road in 12 months. During construction, we will work closely with all stakeholders to minimize disruptions. Rest assured that MPTC and NLEX are committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Lim.
