PAL sustains profitability, nets $77M in Q1
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines Inc. sustained its profitability for the 14th consecutive quarter since the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a news release on Friday, PAL said it booked a net income of $77 million (about P3.9 billion) in the first quarter of 2025, albeit lower compared to $80.9 million in the same period last year.
This was due to the decline in revenues by 1% to $817 million (P47.3 billion) amid the shift in the peak Holy Week traffic period from March in 2024 to April this year.
PAL flew 4.1 million passengers during the period, up 5% year-on-year; while its cargo business carried 52.6 million kilos of cargo on that back of over 28,000 flights operated across its international and domestic network.
The flag carrier launched routes from Manila to Cauayan and from Cebu to Catarman in the first quarter, and announced new routes from Cebu to Ho Chi Minh, and from Manila to Danang, commencing in May and July, respectively.
“We are greatly encouraged by the support of our valued customers who choose to fly on Philippine Airlines’ global network, and for whom we are investing in progressive product and service improvements, fleet renewal efforts and digital innovations, with safety and reliability as our topmost concerns,” said Stanley Ng, PAL president and chief operating officer. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
