CIMB starts reversal of funds for customers hit by unauthorized transfers

Digital-only commercial lender CIMB Bank Philippines on Sunday said it has started the reversal of funds to customers impacted by recent unauthorized transfers, as it apologized for the inconvenience and assured that its core banking system and customer data “remain secure and intact.”

In an advisory, CIMB said customers can now check their accounts after select customers were impacted by unauthorized fund transfers.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Rest assured that your security continues to be of utmost importance to us,” the advisory read.

The lender in an earlier advisory said it is conducting a thorough investigation and is committed to ensuring a “swift and thorough” resolution of the unsolicited withdrawals which affected “a few customers.” It did not elaborate.

“We would like to assure affected customers that any impacted funds will be returned,” the advisory said.

“Our core banking system and customer data remain secure and intact, as your security continues to be of utmost importance to the bank,” it added.

CIMB in February said it aims to add 1 million users to its platform this year to reach a 10-million customer base, and to increase its loan customers up to 4.7 million this year from 4 million in 2024.

It closed 2024 with P800 billion in transactions and P100 billion in loan disbursements. —KG, GMA Integrated News
