DTI, Converge ink deal to boost MSMEs

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Converge SME Business Group have signed a partnership to help strengthen the online connectivity of the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In a statement, Converge said the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the DTI aims to give small businesses the training, digital tools, and reliable internet they need to survive and grow in an increasingly digital economy driven by artificial intelligence (AI).

Converge is one of the major fiber-internet providers in the Philippines.

A key part of the agreement is the creation of the DTI AI and Start-up Center at the DTI building in Makati.

The center will showcase advanced technologies and AI tools, and will be open to MSME owners and aspiring entrepreneurs who want to learn about modern digital solutions and how to use them in their businesses.

With better access to fast, stable, and affordable fiber internet, small entrepreneurs will be able to digitize their operations, build a stronger online presence, and reach more customers.

Under the partnership, the Converge SME Business Group will also help MSMEs adapt to the digital shift through training programs, digital onboarding assistance, and access to Converge’s range of connectivity and productivity services.

MSMEs make up 99.5% of all businesses in the Philippines and remain a major source of jobs, making them crucial to the economy.

“MSMEs are the lifeblood of our economy, but many still face barriers to digital adoption,” said DTI Assistant Secretary Nylah Rizza Bautista.

“Through this partnership with Converge SME, we are helping close that gap so Filipino entrepreneurs—wherever they are—can thrive in a technology-driven world,” she added.

Converge SME Business Group head Dindo Marzan said the collaboration allows the company to extend its mission of ensuring no one is left behind in the country’s digital transformation.

“This partnership lets us support the very heart of our economy by giving MSMEs the tools and technology to compete, grow, and innovate,” he said.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
