Zaldy Co firm's dispute with DigiPlus still hangs—lawyers
The legal battle between Eco Leisure and Hospitality Holdings, the firm owned by former Ako Bicol Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, and gaming firm DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is still ongoing, the latter’s lawyers confirmed.
The case, which revolves around the valuation of Midas Hotel and Casino, was initially decided in favor of DigiPlus. But Eco Leisure has filed an appeal with the Pasig City Regional Trial Court, keeping the dispute unresolved.
“We confirm that there was an arbitration case, and DigiPlus won. The other party filed an appeal in the Regional Trial Court in Pasig, and the case is still pending,” said law firm Villaraza and Angcangco, which represents DigiPlus.
The statement comes after social media posts suggested that the Anti-Money Laundering Council’s (AMLC) freeze orders on Co’s accounts could benefit DigiPlus, which operates BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone.
The dispute stems from DigiPlus’ desire to exit its partnership with Co in Midas Hotel and Casino, with its stake valued at P2.5 billion. Eco Leisure claimed its right of first refusal, offering to match the bid to acquire the stake, which DigiPlus accepted.
However, Eco Leisure later said it would only pay P1 billion, arguing that DigiPlus owed them billions in unpaid reimbursements.
Co is also under scrutiny for possible wrongdoing, after the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recommended the filing of charges of plunder and bribery against him and other lawmakers in connection with allegedly anomalous public works projects from 2016 to 2024.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
