Meralco bidding for 200-MW power supply draws 725 MW in offers

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said on Wednesday that many power producers have shown interest in supplying its 200-megawatt (MW) baseload requirement for renewable energy compliance.

In a news release, Meralco said 15 companies have expressed intent to participate in the Competitive Selection Process (CSP), submitting a combined total of 725 MW in offers. These companies are set to attend the pre-bid conference scheduled on January 15.

The deadline for the formal submission of bid offers is February 16.

“The strong interest we received reflects confidence in Meralco’s procurement process. We look forward to receiving competitive and compliant bids that will support our efforts to deliver reliable, sustainable, and least-cost electricity to our customers,” said Lawrence Fernandez, chairman of Meralco’s Bids and Awards Committee for Power Supply Agreements (BAC-PSA).

Fernandez added that Meralco will ensure the bidding process remains transparent, fair, and in line with government regulations.

“As a highly regulated entity, Meralco remains fully committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and regulatory compliance throughout the CSP,” he said.
