Solar Philippines fined P24B for commitment failure —DOE

The Department of Energy on Tuesday announced some P24-billion in penalties to Solar Philippines after the termination of over 11,000 megawatts worth of contracts in the past two years for failure to deliver on its production commitments.

According to DOE Secretary Sharon Garin, the penalties include performance funds, along with contractual obligations or the supposed cost of the project, and the financial obligations or the training and development fund and other obligations in the contract.

“We will pursue this obligation, the imposition of this obligation to all the developers na natatabi ito that are supposed to pay for this,” she said in a media briefing.

This comes as Solar Philippines — founded by Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste — was found to have failed to deliver on its commitment to produce nearly 12 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity.

Garin said the DOE consistently sent notices and show cause orders along with requests for Solar to renew their bonds, but to no avail.

“We have not received any response from the (their) company nila sa (to the) DOE, dun sa performance bond nila na kailangan nilang bayaran (for their performance bond that they need to pay),” she said. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
