UN Global Compact Network PH elects new board
The United Nations Global Compact Network Philippines (UN GCNP), the local network that provides a platform for companies and non-business stakeholders to advance sustainability initiatives, has elected its new board of trustees for 2026.
Among those who voted for the incoming board was Bayo Manila Inc. co-chief executive and chief finance officer Atty. Leo Antonio Lagon, as well as PLDT Inc. chief sustainability officer Melissa Vergel de Dios and Morination Agricultural Products chief executive officer Sharon Jen Gulmatico.
Also elected were PTC Holdings Corp. executive director Maj. Gen. Restituto Padilla Jr., Globe Telecom Inc. sustainability and social responsibility head Abelyn "Apple" Evangelista, and Manila Water Company corporate center director for sustainability Sarah Bergado.
“Geopolitical tensions—particularly the escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and their allies—will continue to strain global stability and economic conditions. In moments like this, it can be tempting to step back,” outgoing UN GCNP chairperson Ma. Victoria Tan said during the recent general assembly.
“As members of the UN Global Compact, we understand that this is precisely when principled, credible, and forward-looking business leadership matters most. Our commitment to sustainable development goals is not dependent on favorable conditions. It is a framework for resilience, guiding how we uphold integrity, navigate volatility, and contribute to a more sustainable world,” she added. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
