Solon proposes shorter mall hours amid Middle East crisis
Davao Oriental 2nd District Representative Cheeno Miguel Almario has filed a resolution urging the government to study the possible implementation of shorter mall hours in light of the Middle East crisis.
Almario is urging the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Energy, along with local government units, to conduct the said study.
“We cannot wait until the full impact reaches Filipino consumers. Proactive conservation measures can help soften the blow of rising fuel costs,” Almario said in a press statement on Tuesday.
“Reducing operating hours even by two or three hours daily could significantly lower electricity consumption, reduce operational expenses for businesses, and contribute to national energy conservation efforts,” he added.

The legislator also clarifies that his proposal is “not anti-business” as it “promotes efficiency, responsible energy use, and economic prudence at a time when global developments are placing pressure on energy markets.”
