SM Prime to build P300-M pedestrian link between SM City Masinag & LRT2 Antipolo

Sy-led property developer SM Prime Holdings Inc. is set to spend over P300 million to develop a direct pedestrian link between its SM City Masinag in Antipolo, Rizal, and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) Antipolo Station.

Construction for the project is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026, with the project — incuding ramps, elevators, lighting, and closed-circuit television systems — expected to be operational six months later.

The project will be done under a public-private partnership with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), following similar concourses done by SM Prime in SM North, and in SM Megamall.

SM Prime also earlier partnered with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to provide commuters with live traffic feeds on select mall digital directories.

“Urban mobility is central to national development. By working with government, we are able to improve access points that affect commuters every day,” SM Prime president Jeffrey Lim said in an emailed statement.

“This partnership started during the pandemic, when improving public transport access became a priority. The facilities are now largely in place,” he added.

SM Prime has earmarked some P100 billion for its capital spending this year, as it seeks to sustain the growth of its retail and commercial segments.

The capital expenditure program will cater to the company’s maturing debts, and borrowing plans for the Bay City Reclamation Project.

The company is also set to open for new malls this year, after averaging 115 million monthly visitors across its nationwide network in 2025. It opened SM City Zamboanga on March 20, 2026. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
