Telcos 'ready' to implement possible Roblox ban, CICC says
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) said that several telcos are already prepared to implement a ban on Roblox should the government order such a move.
This comes after the CICC said that they've met telcos to discuss the supposed risks to minors on the gaming platform.
Earlier, the CICC issued an "ultimatum" for the gaming platform to coordinate with the government to address alleged illegal activities taking place within the app.
Should they fail to respond, CICC said that they would be moving for a total ban.
“Kaya binigyan na lang namin sila ng 15 days to reach out to the government, the DICT and the CICC in particular, to discuss why we shouldn’t restrict their platform in the Philippine jurisdiction. Not only harmful but illegal contents online are happening within their platform,” said CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Aboy Paraiso.
(The reason why we gave them 15 days to reach out to the government, the DICT, and the CICC in particular is to discuss why we shouldn’t restrict their platform in the Philippine jurisdiction.)
GMA News Online has reached out to Roblox for a comment on the issue, but it has yet to reply as of posting time.
Senator Risa Hontiveros has called for a probe into Roblox and other similar platforms due to said illegal activities under Senate Resolution No. 357. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
