As the demand for water climbs during the dry season, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. said Sunday it is expanding its supply buffer and accelerating infrastructure projects to help keep water service stable across its concession area.

In a statement, the west zone concessionaire said it is implementing a mix of supply augmentation, system optimization, and infrastructure upgrades following PAGASA’s recent El Niño alert.

Among the projects underway are a 200-million-liter raw water reservoir at the La Mesa Compound and a 40-million-liter treated water reservoir in Valenzuela, which Maynilad said would provide additional storage and improve system resilience during periods of high demand.

The company said it is also maximizing output from its treatment facilities, including modular treatment plants and NEW WATER facilities, while optimizing operations in its south system plants to increase production and reduce dependence on Angat Dam.

Maynilad said these efforts are aimed at reinforcing supply availability, particularly during the dry season.

The company is also strengthening groundwater resources through the activation and rehabilitation of deep wells in select areas to provide additional supply support.

Maynilad said it is continuing to expand its non-revenue water reduction program, which includes leak detection, pressure management, and network optimization to recover water losses and improve system efficiency.

These measures, it said, are intended to increase the amount of water delivered to customers without tapping additional raw water sources.

“Our priority is to ensure that our customers continue to receive reliable water service, especially during periods of high demand,” Maynilad said.

“We continuously implement and enhance our operational and infrastructure measures to strengthen the resilience of our system,” it added.

The concessionaire also urged customers to practice responsible water use, particularly during the dry season. —Sherylin Untalan/RF, GMA News
