Consunji-led integrated energy company Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) saw its bottom line decline in the first quarter of 2026, weighed by reduced power generation and coal shipments.
In a statement on Thursday, SMPC said its January to March net income stood at P3.8 billion, down 12% from P4.4 billion in the same period last year.
This as total coal shipments declined 4% to 4.5 million metric tons (MT), from 4.7 million MT, “mainly due to lower export volumes, while domestic demand remained stable.”
Likewise, total power sales decreased by 22%, from 1,427 gigawatt-hour (GWh) to 1,120 GWh, “driven mainly due to weaker plant performance.” —NB, GMA News
