Global shipping giant FedEx has officially broken ground on the expansion of its Clark gateway facility, a move aimed at strengthening the Philippines’ position as a key shipping hub in the Asia-Pacific region and improving connectivity for local businesses.

In a news release on Wednesday, FedEx said the modernized Clark facility will span more than 78,000 square meters upon completion.

The upgraded hub will feature advanced sorting and operational systems designed to improve shipping reliability and flexibility for customers.

The expansion is expected to significantly boost FedEx’s capacity for handling express, e-commerce, and heavy freight shipments amid growing trade activity in the region.

Top Philippine government and business leaders attended the groundbreaking ceremony on May 19.

“The expansion of our Clark gateway reflects our continued commitment to the Philippines and to building a smarter, more resilient network across the region,” said Masamichi Ujiie, president of FedEx North Pacific and South Pacific.

“By enhancing our operational capabilities at Clark, we are better positioned to support Philippine businesses, enable efficient cross-border trade, and provide more reliable connectivity to global markets,” Ujiie added.

Finance Secretary Frederick Go said the project will help deepen global connectivity and strengthen local trade capabilities.

“Filipino firms and consumers can reach more markets, while more foreign traders can reach ours. As the Asia-Pacific region grows, the Philippines will be better positioned to ride this momentum and drive economic growth,” Go said.

Also in attendance were Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina Roque, along with officials from the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD), Clark Development Corporation (CDC), and Robinsons Land Corporation.

FedEx said the project marks the next phase of its presence in the region, building on the opening of the Clark gateway in October 2021 and a land lease agreement with LIPAD signed in July 2024.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with Robinsons Land Corporation serving as the developer.

The new facility will also incorporate sustainability features, including energy-efficient insulation and windows, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and provisions for future solar power installation.
