BIR files complaints vs. 3 firms, 1 individual over P50-M tax liabilities

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed a complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against three companies and an individual for alleged unpaid taxes, penalties, and surcharges as far back as 2017.

According to the BIR, the largest liability is owed by a company registered in Bacoor, Cavite. It said the company owes P27.294 million in deficiency income tax and withholding tax for the taxable year 2017.

Another company, based in Davao del Sur, owes P9.661 million in income tax, expanded withholding tax, value-added tax, and documentary stamp tax for 2019. Meanwhile, the last company owes P5.648 million in income tax and VAT for 2017.

Meanwhile, the private respondent faces a P15.903 million liability for 2017, according to the BIR.

The BIR alleged that the companies and the individual violated Section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code.

It said the respondents failed to respond despite repeated notices, final assessment notices, and warrants of distraint and levy.

“Once assessments become final and executory, the BIR is prepared to pursue the appropriate legal remedies, including criminal action,” BIR Commissioner Charlito Mendoza said.

“We remind taxpayers to respond promptly to BIR notices and settle their obligations through the proper channels before cases escalate further,” he added.

The BIR said that if found guilty, the respondents may be fined at least P10,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 years. —AOL, GMA News
