Japan firm Tanita eyes PH as site for health-tech hub — DTI

Japanese precision health and wellness devices firm Tanita Corporation is considering the Philippines as a possible site for an integrated facility covering parts processing, assembly, and inspection, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

In a statement, the DTI said Tanita's proposed project could generate around P2 billion in export sales and create approximately 500 jobs within five years of commercial operations.

The Trade Department said the investment was discussed during the official visit of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to Japan, where members of the Philippine economic team, led by Trade and Industry Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque, together with Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., met with Tanita president and CEO Senri Tanida, senior company officials, and representatives from partner firms.

During the meeting, the Japanese health-tech shared that it is evaluating ASEAN locations for its proposed "Factory No. 3," following its existing plants in Japan and China.

The facility will serve as an export-oriented manufacturing base supplying products to Japan, Europe, the Americas, and other Asian markets, according to the DTI.

"Tanita represents the type of forward-looking and innovation-driven investor that the Philippines is actively seeking to attract. Their investment will support our broader goal of positioning the Philippines as a competitive regional hub for high-value manufacturing, wellness technologies, and preventive healthcare-related industries," Roque said. — VDV, GMA News
