Visayas grid on yellow alert on Saturday evening, June 13, 2026
The Visayas grid will be placed on yellow alert on Saturday night, June 13, 2026, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
The yellow alert will be in effect from 6 to 7 p.m.
This is because available capacity is at 2,669 MW while peak demand is at 2,393 MW.
The NGCP said three power plants have been on forced outage this month.
Meanwhile, "8 plants are on forced outage since May 2026, 1 plant since March 2026, 3 plants since 2025, 2 plants since 2024, 2 plants since 2023, and 1 plant since 2021, while 9 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 842MW unavailable to the grid," it added.
The unavailability of coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2 and PEDC 3 in Visayas as well as the high demand forecast contributed to the raising of the yellow alert, the company said.
"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," it added. —KG, GMA News
