Western Visayas power rates up in June 2026
Power consumers in Western Visayas will have to pay more for electricity this month as distributors announced upward adjustments in their rates due to higher prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
Iloilo City-based MORE Electric and Power Corp. said residential rates may increase by P2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), from P11.87 per kWh to P13.87 per kWh.
“Ang share na binibili natin sa WESM or merkado ng kuryente, tumaas ng sobrang laki, so from an average of around P4.50 per kWh, umakyat siya sa P10.90 per kWh,” MORE Power vice president for energy sourcing and commercial affairs Neil Parcon said in a report by GMA Regional TV's Kim Salinas on “Unang Balita" on Tuesday.
(The share that we procure from WESM, or the electricity market, increased significantly. From an average of around P4.50 per kWh, it climbed to P10.90 per kWh.)
The Iloilo 1 Electric Cooperative Inc. (ILECO 1) is looking at a P1-per-kWh increase.
“Nag-request tayo ng staggered payment sa ERC o Energy Regulatory Commission. Hahatiin sa ilang buwan para hindi masyadong malaki,” ILECO corporate planning manager Engr. Edwin Figueroa said.
(We requested a staggered implementation from the ERC, or Energy Regulatory Commission. The increase will be spread over several months so the impact will not be too large.)
In Bacolod City, Negros Power is set to raise electricity rates by P2.46 per kWh, bringing the overall residential rate to P13.84 per kWh from P11.38 per kWh. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VBL, GMA News
