Meralco seeks bids for 600-MW power supply deal

Power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has started looking for suppliers for 600 megawatts (MW) of electricity under a 15-year contract, as the company seeks to ensure reliable supply and competitive rates for its customers in the coming years.

The power supply agreements (PSA) to be awarded covers the delivery of in two phases of 300 MW each starting in 2028 and 2029, subject to the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Power generation firms are called to submit expressions of interest by July 14, with the pre-bid conference scheduled on July 28, and the bid submission due on September 1. The selection process is set to be technology-neutral and all firms that meet requirements will be allowed to submit an offer.

"This CSP (competitive selection process) forms part of Meralco’s continuing commitment to securing reliable, adequate, and competitively priced power supply for customers through a transparent and competitive procurement process," Meralco Bids and Awards Committee - PSA chairman Lawrence Fernandez said.

Meralco constructs, operates, and maintains electric distribution systems in the cities and municipalities of Bulacan, Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal, as well as certain areas in the Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga, and Quezon provinces.

The Pangilinan-led firm posted a 12% increase in its consolidated core net income for 2025 to P50.6 billion, with its distribution utility business accounting for 58% or P29.6 billion. — VDV, GMA News
