ERC orders Meralco to refund P9.5B to customers

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) was directed by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to refund P9.5 billion to its customers.

”MERALCO is DIRECTED to refund the total amount of Nine Billion Five Hundred Six Million Five Hundred Sixty-Six Thousand Five Hundred Fifty-Six Pesos (PhP9,506,566,556.00) or an equivalent average refund rate for all customer classes in the amount of PhP0.3448/kWhthe ERC said in its 28-page decision.

The decision said the P9.5 billion refund covers the amount Meralco charged its customers that were not authorized.

"The refund scheme and implementation period shall be within six months or until such time that the amount of over recovery shall have been fully refunded to its customers," according to the ERC decision that was promulgated on July 21, 2026. —RF, GMA News
