Dennis Uy's Converge sees role in Pax Silica project

Businessman Dennis Anthony Uy sees a potential role for Converge ICT Solutions Inc. in the Pax Silica project in New Clark City, Tarlac, particularly in providing connectivity and other digital infrastructure.

"So for my end, this is mostly manufacturing AI components, it's not my stake. Maybe I can provide the connectivity, provide the AI infrastructure," the Converge co-founder and CEO told reporters on Tuesday.

Under the Pax Silica initiative, the Philippines and the United States are working to establish a 4,000-acre industrial hub envisioned as a model for artificial intelligence-focused investment within the Luzon Economic Corridor.

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), however, earlier clarified that the Pax Silica site would not house massive data centers serving the AI sector. Instead, it is intended to accommodate companies manufacturing electronics and advanced technology components, including chips and semiconductors.

Earlier this year, the BCDA sought bids for the ₱2.5-billion information and communications technology infrastructure project in New Clark City.

Asked whether Converge was interested in the project, Uy said the company was studying the opportunity.

"We are looking into it. Kasi kung walang infrastructure, paano magiging Pax Silica? Basic requirement is infrastructure, power, water, communication," he said.

Progressive and environmental groups have raised concerns about the project's potential environmental and social impacts.

Malacañang earlier said provisions of the U.S.-led initiative could still be revised if necessary. It also assured that the project would not displace farmers.— MCG, GMA News
