Vivant books P784M net income in H1 2026, down 19%

Cebu-based energy and water industries conglomerate Vivant Corp. saw a 19% decline in its bottom line in the first half of 2026 amid uncertainty in the economic climate due to the Middle East crisis-induced fuel price volatility.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Vivant reported a consolidated core net income of P784 million, from P962 million in the same period last year.

"Vivant recognizes that uncertainties continue to persist. Externally, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, slower than expected economic growth prospects, and potential changes in industry regulations will continue to shape today's business environment," said Vivant CEO Arlo Sarmiento.

"Internally, the company also faced operational challenges with the unplanned downtimes of a couple of our conventional plants which affected our earnings in the first half of the year. Resources have been dedicated to ensure commitments are met, operational processes are strengthened and restoration of these capacities at the soonest possible time," said Sarmiento.

Vivant's consolidated revenues totaled P7.6 billion, up from P5.4 billion a year earlier.

The company's energy business contributed P1.3 billion to the total net income, with majority or 66% coming from power generation which totaled P853 million.

Vivant's electricity distribution business, on the other hand, brought in P553 million despite a P118-million loss from retail energy amid a lower average selling price from the retail electricity supply sales during the period.

Moreover, the company's portfolio of plants, which includes coal, oil, and solar assets, has a total gross installed capacity of 1,1176 megawatts (MW).

Vivant's water business, meanwhile, contributed P174 million to Vivant's bottom line, up 86% improvement from P93 million contribution in the same period in 2025.

"Despite softer overall results from our energy business, we see bright spots across our businesses. The diversified nature of the Vivant portfolio cushioned the earnings impact in the first half of 2026," said Sarmiento. — VDV, GMA News
