Filipinos in NZ dairy farms keen on technology transfer
There is growing interest among many Filipinos working in New Zealand dairy farms to set up dairy farms in the Philippines, the Philippines' ambassador to Wellington said. In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said that Ambassador Virginia Benavidez noted Filipinos in New Zealand want to share “the knowledge and experience that they have gained from their employment, particularly on dairy production technology and pasture management." There are 6,000 to 8,000 Filipino dairy workers employed in farms across New Zealand, the DFA said. Benavidez and the officers and members of the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines (DAIRYCON) and the Batangas Dairy Cooperative (BADACO) met with Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala and National Dairy Authority (NDA) administrator Grace Cenas to discuss new opportunities for the domestic dairy industry. "Possible areas of cooperation between the Philippines and New Zealand and issues affecting the domestic dairy industry, including the drafting of a comprehensive industry roadmap were likewise discussed," the DFA said. — ELR/VS, GMA News
