'Quinta' damage to crops and agri infra reaches P124-M

The farm sector sustained over P124 million in damage from Tropical Cyclone Quinta (Wukong), the Department of Agriculture reported Friday afternoon.
Government data showed the damage included P124.422 million worth of crops and P11,500 of farm infrastructure. Only Leyte province filed preliminary reports on damage to infrastructure.
The department said the "validation [of figures] is still going on."
Damage to rice crops reached P101.503 million, and for high value crops and corn P16.835 million and P6.085 million, respectively.
The reports on crop damage came mainly from Oriental Mindoro, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate), Aklan, Capiz, Negros Occidental, and Leyte.
Tropical Cyclone Quinta barreled through the Visayas and southern Luzon early this week, displacing over 5,000 families and killing at least 11 people.
“Quinta” made landfall just three weeks after Super Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) devastated southern Philippines with the farm sector reporting over P11 billion in damage to crops and infratrstructure. — SOA/VS, GMA News
