Black sand mining operations in Cagayan province dismantled – Mines bureau

Illegal black sand mining operations of four firms in Cagayan province have been dismantled, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau said Tuesday via a post on its website.

The MGB with the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) took down a structure Huaxia Mining and Trading Corporation used to harvest black sand or magnetite.

Magnetite is a raw material for making steel. The black sand is shipped to China's steel factories.

Three other firms voluntarily took down their structures after the MGB and NBI served dismantling orders against the four firms last December 9, the MGB said.

Well Resources Corporation, Lutra Incorporated, and Global Express complied with the MGB before December 31, 2013, the MGB said. — ELR, GMA News
